How To Flatten Stomach

Belly fat tends to upset dieters more than any other kind of fat, perhaps because it is so stubborn and difficult to lose. Many people go through months of dieting only to reach their ideal weight and still have a little pooch where they imagined their new flat stomach might appear.

Diets don’t really teach how to flatten a stomach. A diet is designed to do one thing: create weight loss. Weight can be composed of water, fat, or muscle. Losing weight without gaining muscle can leave any dieter with stubborn belly fat, but luckily, the problem is not that hard to fix.

The best solution is regular exercise. Simply wearing a pedometer and trying to increase the amount of steps you take on a daily basis can flatten your stomach if done faithfully.

Walking and biking are both great ways to get to work or to the market and both will give you flatter stomach if you practice good posture and hold your stomach in while you move.

Sit-ups and crunches can help to flatten a stomach but many people perform them incorrectly and end up straining their necks or their backs.

When performing a sit up, you should feel the burn in your abdomen and your back should stay flat against the floor. If you are using the weight of your head and arms to pull yourself up by force, you are not performing the exercise correctly.

A better idea is to learn a whole body routine that also works the stomach such as yoga or Pilates. Yoga is especially helpful in that not only does it teach poses that are designed to slim and flatten the belly, it also teaches proper breathing and proper whole body posture.

Most people breath very shallowly, from high up in their chest cavity. Proper breathing begins down in the belly. Simply learning to breathe from the belly in the correct way and learning to maintain that kind of breathing while moving around can flatten a stomach dramatically.

Posture is also a big issue. If you are not standing straight and naturally and pulling in your belly, over time your belly will sag and your stomach muscles will stop working the way they should. Simply learning correct posture and making a conscious effort to maintain that posture throughout your day can make a huge difference in how flat your stomach is and also in how you look and feel.

Last but not least, stress signals the body to release a hormone that causes fat to be stored in the midsection. Learning to control stress and to get enough rest can result in a flatter stomach.

Exercise is one of the best ways to control stress, but meditation techniques and meditative exercise routines like yoga or Tai Chi can also transform your personal perspective and your stomach.

Learning how to flatten the belly is a matter of learning new habits and maintaining them. So many people think that weight loss solves every body issue, but it does not. Weight loss is a good start, but stress reduction, proper posture, regular exercise, and learning to breathe correctly all have a huge impact on whether you end up with a flat belly or a puffy one.
