Lose Face Fat

How do you lose face fat? Exercise can help trim body fat, and several special devices are manufactured for the purpose of exercising jaw and neck muscles to reduce a double chin, but face fat can be very frustrating and stubborn, especially if you’ve just lost lots of weight but it isn’t showing in your face.

If you want to lose face fat and are not sure how to go about it, start by asking yourself a few pertinent questions.

First, are your expectations realistic? Facial features, including the shape of the face and the amount of fat deposited in different areas of the face, have a strong genetic component. Heredity determines much of how any given face appears, and heredity is hard to change.

Does your round face really make you look fat? Or is that just the kind of face you were born with? If you are dealing with a hereditary feature, trying to lose face fat is more likely to drive you crazy than give you a slimmer face.

Second, have you achieved your ideal weight? If not, you may just need to wait another ten or fifteen pounds to see your weight loss reflected in your face as well as your body. If you have achieved your normal weight but only very recently, you may just need to give your body and face time to adjust to the change. Sometimes it takes several weeks for your new weight to normalize, and your body can continue to change and adjust during that time even though your weight stays the same.

Third, are you retaining water? Look at your salt intake and your hydration. Do you drink at least eight glasses of water each day, or are you more likely to pop open a can of soda? Canned and bottled soft drinks contain large amounts of sodium, sugar, and preservatives. They add unnecessary additional calories and can easily cause you to retain water and get a puffy look to your face. Even diet soda contains unacceptable levels of salt, so try to avoid those drinks.

If you have thought all these possibilities through and are still unhappy with your looks and want to lose face fat, you may need to consult a cosmetic surgeon.

Cosmetic surgery offers lots of different options for creating a slimmer facial look, and not all of them are invasive or overly dangerous. Just talking about your concerns with a cosmetic surgeon may be enough to convince you that you’re not that unhappy with your face fat after all; but sometimes a surgeon can actually help you get what you want, or will at least have suggestions you might not have considered.

Changing your body, your weight, and your looks is a big deal. You should expect to experience lots of frustration and issues of adjustment and self-esteem. Especially if you’ve lost a large amount of weight, it may take several months for your body and your feelings to catch up with your new looks. Be gentle with yourself, be honest, stay healthy, and most of all, be patient.

Chances are good that if you stick with your diet and exercise program long enough, the real you will emerge more perfectly and more completely than you ever imagined.
