The best approach to losing weight:
I think the best way you can approach losing weight is to think about it properly before jumping in and making rash changes to your diet and lifestyle.
Many people have tried dozens of diets and workout programs simply on a whim or because thier friend lost 5 pounds on XYZ diet.
Examine Your Reasons for Putting on weight
If your main goal is to lose weight you need to first examine what got you overweight, and 80% of the time you will find the cause to be in the mind, a belief or attitude towards food or even sometimes you may find that being healthy is low on your personal value list, ie you may seek immediate gratification instead of the delayed gratification of having a gorgeous body.
1) Come up with a plan to overcome any Bad programming you may have received
Personally I like the approach that is put fort by Maxwell Maltz in Psycho Cybernetics – (weird title I know it was written a long time ago)
The method: Sorting out your Head
- Create a mental image of you at your ideal weight, feeling full of vitality and joy, sexy and see yourself in a mirror, feel the presence of how your body feels.
- see yourself enjoying a refreshing and envigorating workout that you thoroughly enjoy
- create this workout for yourself, you know your limits and what you would enjoy.
- Some suggestions: 30 min walk
- Yoga – like doing the sun salutation
- tai chi
- kick boxing
- kettlebells
- resistance training
- interval training
- hill sprints
- 50 hindu squats
- hindu pushups
- Backbridge
- the 5 Tibetans
- Qigong(I could go on forever)
- Isometrics
- establish a daily routine where you consistently vizualise this mental movie until it becomes ‘who you are’
- this should be vizualised every morning and evening
Once your mental stuffies have been sorted out(and you should keep doing this always) You will be amazed after doing this for just 2 weeks..
2 Choosing your new Lifestyle:
Choosing a lifestyle that suits your temprament is important as you want it to gel with who you really are, for example,
eg: if I have no interest in most sporting activities, no matter how hard I try I will never enjoy being on a soccer team, I will eventually lose interest, and quit and then become discouraged.
It is thus up to you to decide which activities you will really enjoy participating in and it can be more than one! for example I would probably choose:
- meditation
- yoga
- Tai Chi
- Daily 30 min walks
- resistence training
- interval training
ask yourself these 3 questions:
- How will this enrich and nourish my life
- what are the benefits of doing this activity eg if it was Yoga it would be balance, toning, relaxation, less stress, better breathing, strong inner core etc.
eg: If it was Gym it would be, more noticeable physique, dominating biceps and shoulders, increased sex appeal and respect and increased strength. - Am I really interested and motivated to do this activity enough that I will enjoy it and stick to it?
3 Planning Your New Lifestyle
Once you have chosen the new lifestyle activity you can make yourself something very nourishing and fulfilling, its creating a Daily Routine that supports your new healthy lifestyle!
Using the above examples I would suggest you arrange them around your day and week so that you have a VISIBLE PLAN of UPCOMING ENJOYABLE ACTIVITIES.
Do not neglect the social value of activities you chose to engage in.

5 Engage In Healing Activities that support your body and soul
remember that to enhance your efforts to lose weight Detoxification is a very beautiful gift you can give yourself , doing a colon, liver, gallbladder and kidney cleanse may be a very good way to start, as it helps that you have elimenated poisons from your system. Some people choose colonic irrigation but I would favor a full ayurvedic Panchakarma treatment.
- Detox
- Intermittent fasting one day or two a week will also help
